Here you have the categories and prizes:

Newspaper Photographers of the Year
* Tiffany crystal engraved trophy and a $1,000 cash award.
* Runners-up will receive a plaque and a $500 cash award and the thirdplace winner will receive a plaque and a $250 cash award.

Magazine Photographers of the Year
* Tiffany crystal engraved trophy and a $1,000 cash award.
* Runners-up will receive a plaque and a $500 cash award and the thirdplace winner will receive a plaque and a $250 cash award.

World Understanding Award
* Tiffany crystal engraved trophy and a $1,000 cash award.

Global Vision Award
* Tiffany crystal engraved trophy and a $1,000 cash award. This is a new premiere category.

Angus McDougall Overall Excellence in Editing
* The newspaper winning the Angus McDougall Overall Excellence in Editing Award will receive, for a year, a sterling silver travelling trophy, a plaque and tuition to the Missouri Photo Workshop.

Community Awareness Award
* Tiffany crystal engraved trophy and a $500 cash award.

One Week’s Work
* Tiffany crystal engraved trophy and a $500 cash award.

Best Book Award
* Tiffany crystal engraved trophy and a $500 cash award to the individual photographer or photographers. The publishing house will be recognized with an engraved plaque.

Best Multimedia Project Award
* The first place winner will receive a $500 cash award to the organisation and a plaque listing all the participating members.
* Second and third place winners will receive a plaque and a $250 cash award. This is a new multimedia category.

The Sony World Photography Awards will be held between the 21st and 25th April 2008 at Palais de Festivals, Cannes. The contest has 2 categories – professionals and amateurs – and is free to enter the competition.

For Professional Photographers, each photographer must submit up to 10 pieces of work for a single category.

Professional Award categories include:
1. Abstract
2. Advertising
3. Architectural
4. Fashion
5. Music / Performance
6. Nature
7. Nude
8. People
9. Photojournalism
10. Science
11. Sport

All submitted works will be judged by Academy members, and three finalists will be nominated in each of the eleven categories.

For Amateur Photographers, each photographer may submit up to 3 photographs into the competition.

Amateur Award categories include:
1. Abstract
2. Architectural
3. Fashion
4. Music / Performance
5. Nature
6. People
7. Science
8. Sport

All submitted works will be judged by Academy members, and a winner from each category will be selected by the Academy.
